How to Build a Charity Website

When the time comes to build a website for your charity it can be difficult to know where to start. There are so many options available, from website builders to five figure design studio sites the options can be daunting. Do you even need a website? Isn’t a Facebook page enough? Who do you trust and what does it need to do?

Once you’ve decided to build a charity website you’ve got a few options. You could use a website builder like Wix or Squarespace. This option is cheap and quick and you’ll get a site that looks pretty good. Unfortunately these website builders are missing SEO enhancements under the hood that a bespoke website would have as standard, you’ll also end up doing all the leg work laying out your site and maintaining it and these sites have a tendency to require annoying extra payments for features you’ll need. Another option is to approach a large web agency with your project, the cost for a website from one of these agencies starts in the mid four figures and goes upwards from there. You will get a good website with this option but you’d be surprised how difficult it can be to get what you want or need despite the price you’re paying.

The option we suggest is, of course, hiring us. We are a small team with a focus on building websites for charities and small businesses. Our platform is built to create a website that fits your needs, not to build a website that fits into our way of doing things! So here are the steps to build a charity website.

  1. Get in contact with us at hello@thecharitywebsite.com. Tell us about your organisation. What is your cause? What are your goals? How do you help people or how can people help you? Let us know your budget, if you have one. Tell us all the things you can think of that you might want in a website! If you don’t have a budget, this will help us suggest one. If you do, it will help us prioritise what we think fits in that budget.

  2. After this initial email, we’ll probably get back to you with some questions and thoughts and arrange a time to talk over the phone or via video conferencing.

  3. Once we’ve both had a chance to get to know each other, and discuss your website requirements, it’s time for us to give you a quote.

  4. If you’re happy with the quote we’ll write out a contract for us both to sign.

  5. When that’s done and dusted. We’ll start by drawing out a design for your charity website.

  6. We’ll give you a chance to give feedback and so this may go through a number of iterations. We won’t move on until you’re happy.

  7. The next phase is the build. We’ll build your beautiful website using modern technology and best practices to help your organisation meet its goals.

  8. Once you’re content with the website in our staging area we’ll make your brand new website live and ready for visitors.

Why not get in contact today and see if we can help you to move your cause forward.
